FSA County Planted Acres

Source: USDA Farm Service Agency, 2026 Acres by County report dated August 1, 2026; county boundaries and land area from the U.S. Census Bureau. Ethanol plant locations and capacity are from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's January 1, 2025 capacity report; points use Census place locations because EIA reports city and state rather than facility coordinates. Soybean-capable member facilities are from the National Oilseed Processors Association's member-location list updated June 18, 2026. Capacity, transportation, and region fields are cross-referenced to Sheet2 of csv_data/soybean_crush_margin_analysis/US Soybean Crush June 15 2026.xlsx. Biodiesel and renewable diesel/other biofuels plant locations and capacities are from EIA's January 1, 2025 plant-capacity reports. Those reports do not identify facility-level feedstocks, so these markers show potential soybean-oil processors rather than confirmed soybean-oil users. Local display data: references/fsa_county_acreage/2026_county_acreage.geojson and references/eia_ethanol_plants/ethanol_plants.geojson, and references/nopa_soybean_plants/soybean_plants.geojson, and references/eia_biomass_based_diesel_plants/diesel_plants.geojson.

Planted acres include all FSA crop types, intended uses, and irrigation practices for corn and soybeans. Wheat maps show the exact FSA Hard Red Winter, Soft Red Winter, and Hard Red Spring crop types. White Wheat combines Hard White Spring, Hard White Winter, Soft White Spring, and Soft White Winter. Canola, barley, and oats include every FSA crop type and intended use under those crop names. Peanuts uses the FSA Peanuts crop and excludes Perennial Peanuts. Cotton combines ELS and upland cotton labels. Failed and prevented acres are not included. Each county is shaded by a combined score: the geometric mean of its percentile for actual crop acres and its percentile for the crop's share of all planted acres in that county. The red dots on the Corn tab are EIA-listed fuel ethanol plants; hover for the operator, reported location, and annual and daily production capacity. The blue dots on the Soybeans tab are NOPA member facilities categorized as soybean or dual-purpose soybean/softseed plants; softseed-only facilities are excluded. Hover for the operator, location, processing category, estimated crush capacity, rail service, and shuttle status. Combined capacity rows for Decatur, Illinois and Quincy, Illinois are each displayed as one combined plant marker and labeled as covering two facilities. The Sheet2-only Mitchell, South Dakota plant is included and identified as absent from the current NOPA list. Purple markers identify the six plants tagged X in Sheet2's River Tributary column; Deerfield's uncertain ? tag remains the standard blue and is identified as uncertain in its tooltip. Orange dots on the Soybeans tab are EIA-listed biodiesel plants. Red dots are EIA-listed renewable diesel and other biofuels plants, including refineries that co-process renewable feedstock and petroleum. EIA does not report plant-level feedstocks, so neither marker confirms current soybean oil use. Hover for operator, reported location, fuel category, and annual and daily production capacity. The Hawaii biodiesel plant is included in the reference but lies outside the map's fitted lower-48 extent. The map uses only committed Census county geometry and does not load an external basemap or mapping API.
